“For God has called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserve it, but because that was His plan before the beginning of time – to show us His grace through Christ Jesus.” – 2 Timothy 1:9 (NLT)
And just like that, Paul wastes no time at all. He continues his theme of holy living by reminding Timothy again to remain living a holy life because this is what God wants us to do. It is what He has called us to do. There is no way around this basic, fundamental truth. Holy living is not a suggestion by any of the apostles. It is a command, and no one is exempt from it.
For some reason we have blurred this teaching and turned it into a gray area, when in reality it is actually black and white. Either you are living a holy life in the Lord, or you are living apart from Him. He does not accept any middle ground Christians. No lukewarm “believers.” And, as I’ve said before, the time to make a decision is now. Either you are all in on this, or you are all out. If you don’t choose for yourself today, then the time is very fast approaching when it will be too late to decide for yourself.
I am going to keep this one short today, because I feel the emphasis on the simplistic message in this first chapter. So in an effort to not complicate it, I am going to let the simplicity of the Truth shine through.
“Hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching you learned from me – a pattern shaped by the faith and love that you have in Christ Jesus. Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you.” – 2 Timothy 1:13-14
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” – 2 Timothy 1:7
